In terms of the user interface, most reviewers of Windows 10 agree that it's a great upgrade from Windows 8.1. But how does it fare in terms of performance? TechSpot put the new operating system through its paces, running benchmark tests on the same machine with all three operating systems (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10) newly installed and updated. The testing PC featured an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 graphics card. The end result is a bit of a mixed bag. Windows 10 routinely outperforms Windows 8.1 pro, which was outperformed by Windows 7. Synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench R15 and Futuremark PCMark 7 show Windows 10 to be quicker than Windows 8.1 pro, which was faster than Windows 7.
